Banff book festival highlights mountain literature
BANFF, Alta. (CP) - The 12th annual Banff Mountain Book Festival will include readings and book signings by authors, and a book fair featuring new titles in mountain literature.
The book fair is a new addition to the festival (Nov. 2-4) and will offer maps, archival material and antiquarian books.
Authors scheduled to give presentations - some featuring slide and video shows - include Jim Perrin (The Villain: The Life of Don Whillans), Karsten Heuer (Being Caribou), David Roberts (On the Ridge between Life and Death: A Climbing Life Reexamined), Bernadette McDonald (I'll Call You in Kathmandu: The Elizabeth Hawley Story), Helen Thayer (Three Among the Wolves), Arlene Blum (Breaking Trail: A Climbing Life), Andy Cave (Learning to Breathe), Richard Sale (Broad Peak) and Graham Forbes (Rock and Roll Mountains).
National Geographic photographer Sam Abell and banner maker John Dugger will also be at the festival.
Overlapping the book festival is the Banff Mountain Film Festival (Oct. 27-Nov. 6) with mountain films, videos and speakers.
